Vaccination of Sows and Gilts against PCV2 Diseases: Field Experiences in Europe

چکیده
Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) has been associated with a number of disease syndromes in pigs, including post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), proliferating and necrotizing pneumonia, porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC), abortion and reproductive problems (Allan & Ellis, 2000). Porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS) and a new ear necrosis syndrome have also been associated with PCV2 but today, there is not definitive evidence that PCV2 is the major cause of these syndromes. Since the end of 2004, CIRCOVAC (Merial), a PCV2 vaccine dedicated to sows and gilts to control PCVD in the whole herd, has been used in several parts of the world. The goal of this paper is to review the large-scale studies of PCV2 vaccination in Europe.

Influence of long-term vaccination of a breeding herd of pigs against PCV2 on reproductive parameters.
The objective of the study was to evaluate an efficacy of sows vaccination protocols in the herd with serious problems affecting efficacy of reproduction. The study was performed in a large pig herd with about 1200 sows. Before vaccination against PCV2, farrowing rate in this farm was about 65%. Sows, boar and replacement gilts were immunized using Circovac vaccine (Merial, France) according to...
متن کاملImpact of maternally derived immunity on piglets’ immune response and protection against porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) after vaccination against PCV2 at different age
BACKGROUND This study was aimed at evaluating the clinical protection, the level of Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) viremia and the immune response (antibodies and IFN-γ secreting cells (SC)) in piglets derived from PCV2 vaccinated sows and themselves vaccinated against PCV2 at different age, namely at 4, 6 and 8 weeks. The cohort study has been carried out over three subsequent production cyc...
متن کاملPorcine circovirus type 2 associated reproductive failure in a specific pathogen free (SPF) piglet producing herd in Norway: a case report
BACKGROUND Since 1999, scientists have published evidence of transplacental infection by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and reproductive failure in pigs. Affected herds have frequently been start-up herds, either naïve or with a high proportion of PCV2 susceptible gilts. Here, delayed farrowing in non-vaccinated gilts was observed in a commercial specific pathogen free (SPF) herd. Mummified f...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this field study was to explore the occurrence of and factors associated with the detection of swine influenza virus (SIV) by RTqPCR in weaner pigs and sows from herds with a history of respiratory or reproductive disorders. MATERIAL AND METHODS The sample set was based on nasal swabs from 823 sows (123 submissions) and 562 weaner pigs (80 submissions). Nasal swab samples...
متن کاملEffect of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccination of the dam on PCV2 replication in utero.
The aims of this study were to determine if porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccination of the dam is effective in preventing fetal PCV2 infection and reproductive failure. Twelve pregnant, PCV2-naïve sows were randomly divided into four groups, with three sows in each group. Group 1 sows served as noninoculated, nonvaccinated negative controls, group 2 sows were vaccinated with a commercially...
